Japanese rider, Liz Akama grabbed her first-time gold in a major skate event. By winning the 2023 WST Street skateboarding event in Rome Japan delivered yet another winner in skateboarding.
"I've never been on the podium," Akama said to Olympics.com afterward reflecting on the win. "But suddenly, I'm at the top. I'm super happy." -Liz Akama-
With her top final trick, a front Feeble-front 180 she secured the top spot above Australian rider Chloe Covel who started the trick section as the ranking leader.
"I've practiced not being nervous even in daily training, and underwent intense training on the tricks that I'm good at," Akama continued. "I told myself that I'm going to land it."
With a total score of 263.90 points, it was a narrow win over Chloe Covel with 261.43 points. Oda Yumeka finished third with 246.38 points.
